What's in a name — especially one like Hasty Pudding?
The Hasty Pudding Theatricals (HPT) is the third oldest theatre company in the world and is made up of around 50 Harvard college undergraduates. As a student run initiative that provides so much to the artistic community, we're thrilled to be one of this year's sponsors.
Every year, since 1844, HPT has produced an original, entirely student-written and composed, pun-filled musical extravaganza. Each year, the show runs for five weeks in Cambridge before their annual tour in New York City and Bermuda. Some of America’s most prominent personalities first got their start in the Pudding, including Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, JFK, Jack Lemmon, Alan Jay Lerner, Rashida Jones, and even the two most recent Governors of MA.
One of the highlights of Hasty Pudding's year is their infamous honour awarded to male performers who have made lasting contributions to the world of entertainment — The Man of the Year.
The Man of the Year award was established in 1963. Its past recipients include Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, Robert De Niro, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Anthony Hopkins, Bruce Willis, and, last year, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
2017's Man of the Year is being awarded to Ryan Reynolds, who will join the ranks of other notable actors, like Richard Gere, Mel Gibson, John Travolta and countless others who have also shared the honor.
