Well Gents… if, like me, you are used to smokier, woodsy, old school leather armchairs. Or citrusy, coastal sailing summer scents… prepare for a shock! Indeed Mayfair is a tribute to scents of old, when floral top notes were not uncommon in men’s perfumery. The florals hit heavy at the start, but WAIT FOR THE DRYDOWN. Patience. It doesn’t take long and it’s in the middle and late phases of this scent that I think it shines. Clean smelling. Crisp. It reminds me of the parks and gardens around London on the sunny days… cool and yet somehow misty. And unlike other florals… this one isn’t sort of soapy — which I do like, but I think soapy old school has been done over and over. Mayfair is different.
I’ve received a number of compliments. Yes it’s more flowery than other T&H offerings. But it’s summer! School’s out. The Club fireplaces are turned off. Gin’s in the air (or preferably the glass). Give this a go. You won’t confuse it with your other scents in the cabinet. I also think it has good staying power but a subtle projection which I like in summer. It’s there but it’s not in your face. I think it is softer than other scents from T&H but stays longer with the skin. Well done!
